Thank you for visiting the dates page. Please try to keep expedition dates free. We try to avoid clashes with other school trips but cannot avoid all of them. If you cannot do an expedition, then you may have to do it the following year. Please contact me early for help on dates.

When are the expeditions?

• GOLD:  Usually 2 Gold expeditions a year: October half term (training only) and late Easter holidays (training & qualifying).  Sometimes I run a late August qualifying expedition.  I also run a foreign trip in February half term every other year.  This gives students up to 5 Gold expeditions to choose from during their 6th form career.
• SILVER:  Usually 2 Silver expeditions a year: training expeditions for 4th Years around June activities day (after school exams) and a qualifying expedition for 5th Years after GCSE exams have finished in July, the last week of term usually.
• BRONZE:  Usually 3 Bronze expeditions a year: training in early May bank holiday, the start of May half term and then qualifying expedition around activities day in October (Friday + weekend before half term).  ALL dates apply to hiking, canoeing and cycling expeditions.

2012

January Award Ceremony: PMH Monday 30 January 7.00pm

Bronze

Bronze enrolment for 3 Years: starts February

 Bronze training expedition for new 3 years: Sunday 6 - 7 May 2012 (hiking, cycling and canoe) early May bank holiday.

Bronze training expedition for new 3 Year: start of summer half term Friday June 1 - Saturday June 2 (permission to miss Friday lessons) for canoe and cycle expedition groups only. 

Bronze qualifying hikes: October activities day: for 4 years: hiking, canoe and cycle.

Silver

Silver enrolment for 4 Years (must finish Bronze): enrolment day Sunday 4 March 10:00am - 2:00pm

Silver training for cycling and canoeing only: Friday 1 June: Tilgate Park Lake, Crawley 9:30-16:00

Silver training expedition for 4 Years: activities day Sunday 1 July - Tuesday 3 July (after school exams) hiking, canoeing and cycling.

SILVER ASSESSMENT EXPEDITION for 5 Years: Sunday July 8  - Tuesday 10 July (after GCSEs have finished & last week of term):  South Downs. 

Gold

GOLD UK qualifying, Mid Wales or Cumbria (for L6 & U6) Sunday 15 - Thursday 19 April 2012 (after Belize trip, but exact dates tbc) Cancelled due to AS changes: see August date below

 

GOLD UK assessment, Mid Wales Saturday 18 - 22 August (dates avoid Biology field trip which leave on 23 Aug).

GOLD training for new L6 (i.e. new L6 RGS Sept 2012): October half term: October 29 - November 1 second week of half term

 2013 - dates so far

SILVER canoe refresher day: early May Bank holiday Monday May 6 

SILVER QUALIFYING EXPEDITION for 5 Years: Sunday July 7  - Tuesday 9 July (after GCSEs have finished & last week of term):  Hiking: South Downs; Canoe expedition venue tba. 

GOLD qualifying 8 -  12 April (around then, exact dates tbc but last week of Easter hols and several days AFTER the Belize trip returns: you CAN do both).

 

Please remember that expeditions are not package holidays and are subject to changes due to weather, transport, people and places e.g. we may be forced to go later, return earlier or abandon trips entirely.  These dates are posted in good faith but may be subject to change or even cancellation.  If dates change, I will try to let people know as soon as possible.  Check back regularly or contact me for the latest updates on future hike dates.
